The Wanderers Football Club was formed in 1916 and is a founding member of the Northern Territory Football League now AFLNT.

As part of the NTFL, the Wanderers Football Club has a proud history as an integral part of the Darwin community, and indeed the entire Northern Territory community, with a strong supporter base in Darwin and extending to the Katherine and Arnhem Land regions.

Wanderers met with instant success winning the first four premierships in the competition. After the premiership of 1923/24 Wanderers entered a period of instability until 1929/30. During this period Wanderers was renamed Rovers 1925/26 and Magpies from 1626/27 to 1928/29 reverting back to the name Wanderers in season 1929/30.

The period between 1923/24 and 1981/82 saw the club struggle winning only one premiership in 1957/58. The 1980/81 season saw the eagles rise almost miraculously to just fail snatching victory in the dying minutes of the Grand Final. Wanderers continued this improvement through the 80's winning back to back premierships in 1981/82 and 1982/83, runners up in 1984/85 and 1988/89, 3rd in 1983/84, 1985/86, 1986/87.

Wanderers next success was the Grand Final win over St Marys in the 1992/93 Grand Final In the late 80's the club achieved a significant milestone, by securing land for its clubrooms adjacent to Football Park in the Marrara Sports Complex. The clubrooms are presently partially completed.
