History

The Wanderers Football Club (WFC) was established in 1917 and is one of one of two Foundation clubs in the Northern Territory Football League competition.

The club, known as the 'Eagles' or ‘Muk Muks’ is represented by the colours gold and blue; and since it’s inception remains a beacon on inclusiveness and diversity to the community. Since the clubs its inception, Wanderers has been at the forefront of breaking down racial and social barriers. With the exception of the Saint Mary’s football club introduction into the league in the 1950’s, no other club from the Northern Territory Football League would allow ‘full blood’ Aboriginals to play in their teams. Wanderers football club elected to opt out of the league during the infamous colour bar era in the late 1920’s.

Wanderers Football Club Clubhouse constructed in the early 1990’s is based at the Marrara Sporting Complex and has a footprint in the northern suburbs of Darwin, and a large following amongst the surrounding Northern Territory. A large majority of our players are Indigenous and have diverse multicultural backgrounds.

The club currently fields thirteen (13) teams in the AFL Northern Territory competition ranging from under 10's all the way through to Senior Men's and Women's. The club has achieved 13 Men's Premier League Premierships and in 2013/14 season successfully launched a senior team in the Women's Premier League Competition.

The Men's Premier League Team has won 12 senior premierships since participating in the inaugural competition back in 1917, with our most recent premiership coming in 2014/15 when we famously came from 5th position to defeat the heavily favoured St. Mary's in one of the greatest upsets of all time.
