I'm excited & proud to continue my coaching journey at Wanderers Football Club. I want to thank the club for continuing to believe in my vision and put their trust in my ability to coach the Men's Premier League team for the next two seasons.
It's been a difficult last two seasons as we have failed to live up to expectations on and off the field. Poor commitment and buy-in across the board have resulted in us not training and performing at a Premier League Standard.
I'm excited in the direction the club is going. Improvements in facilities, club operations and processes by our committee are just some of the changes that will allow our on-field Men's Premier League product an opportunity to grow and shine brighter than last season.
But nothing is given in any footy game or competition, let alone in Darwin.
We have struggled in recent times, having played finals in two of the last seven seasons.
Let that sentence sink in for a second.
We can't rely on talent anymore. The competition has evolved. Our players may have the skill but we can't compete against more committed opposition teams who train consistently at the same high level that they play at.
It's up to us to rise to the standard of the competition or waste another season.
It's going to take a lot of effort to climb back up the ladder. I am interested in finding out who's invested in helping this team fight, dig, climb and compete for every bit of success we earn based on our commitment, energy and effort.
But we can only get the success we crave with an unconditional vow and commitment from every single player who is given the absolute honour of wearing the good old gold and blue each week.
Commit to every training, work hard and give 100% at every opportunity, training the way you want to play.
The football gods ultimately reward the teams who are committed, united, hard working & disciplined who perform consistently. Those teams deserve to win each week and sing their club's song. That's the standard required to compete each week, and it starts on the training track.
There will be opportunities for our talented junior players who display not only the required skill level, but also the necessary work rate, discipline and commitment to play at Premier League level. Attend training, work hard, listen, ask questions and keep trying your best and you will earn those chances to play games early and throughout the whole season.
This is going to take a whole of club approach. While is sounds impossible; it can be done if we all play our small part in completing the puzzle:
Players - take ownership of your footy. Commit to the club but more importantly to your team mates. Players who don't let their team mates down play with more desperation and try harder for longer at each contest.
Parents/Wives/Parents - support your Son/Husband/Partner to commit to the whole season and try their absolute best each week.
Supporters - support our team and encourage players to get training, work hard and perform on game days and represent the club colours with pride.
Volunteers - players can only perform and train at their best when there is enough volunteer support at training and games to fill up water bottles, be a team runner or water carrier, learn to be a sports trainer, time keeper, roll footballs at players to help them improve their skills etc. Many hands make light work.
The success of the team is only as good as the support it is surrounded by.
It's an exciting time to be a part of the MukMuks.
My phone and email is always available, whether you're a current, new or former player, coach, volunteer or supporter! I'd love to hear from you!
I look forward to announcing more details regarding pre-season training, player and assistant coaches updates in the coming weeks.
